Mars, West Mangala, Color Mosaic This scene covers the boundary scarp between the ancient cratered highlands and the northern plains of Mars over an area east of West Mangala Valles (latitude -8 to -4 degrees, longitude 156 to 159 degrees). The sedimentary deposits north of the highlands in Amazonis Planitia may consist of pyroclastic rocks or paleo-polar deposits. Ancient river channels cut the cratered highlands.
